Sarasate – Viva Sevilla
At the end of March Stavanger was permeated with sounds of opera. Stavanger Concert House was a host to Opera Gala, an extraordinary event organised by Rogaland Opera and accompanied by Roma Sinfonietta and their conductor, maestro Gabriele Bonolis. The orchestra, well known for collaboration with Ennio Morricone and Quentin Tarantino, brought a very recognisable lively Italian spirit to the north of Europe. I was delighted to be part of this event as a soloist with Sarasate’s Viva Sevilla. This piece is definitely not performed as much as it deserves and I found it very interesting and challenging, nothing less than some other masterpieces written by the same composer. Viva Sevilla fit perfectly in the atmosphere of the evening which was repeated the day after in Sandnes, a small, but very beautiful and lovely town near Stavanger.
